Fireworks in the City

Lucky lucky us… Puerto Vallarta is the lucky home of the 11th International Fireworks Symposium in April 2009. Prior to this, the Mayor of Puerto Vallarta, Mayor Bravo has announced that PV will hold a prelude to this symposium and have the very first National Fireworks Championship this May!!!! Should be super fun.

Travel Tip: Overseas Medical Care

A midnight walk on the beach of a small Thai village was the perfect ending to my best friend’s first day on the Phi Phi Islands, a tropical archipelago in the Andaman Sea. But he probably should have opted out of the “fresh” pineapple smoothie offered by a beachside vendor before turning in for the night. By 2:00 a.m., he was at the clinic where he’d spend two days with severe food poisoning… and a few thousand dollars.

As my friend found out, getting injured or falling ill while traveling overseas can be more than just an inconvenience. Improper medical care, especially in undeveloped countries, can slow your recovery… and even lead to long-term health problems. Here are few tips to help you avoid this:

  • Check with your doctor for advice and vaccinations appropriate to the area you will be visiting.
  • Be up to date with your regular vaccinations before your trip.
  • Register with the local U.S. Embassy at your destination. You can do this at travel.state.gov.
  • Bring all the medication you take regularly, as well as a back-up supply.
  • Purchase travel health insurance. The policy you have at home probably won’t cover your medical care overseas (or an expensive evacuation if that becomes necessary).
  • Practice basic health and safety: Wear your seatbelt, wash hands thoroughly and often, and wear a helmet while riding a scooter or motorcycle.

Free TTF Puerto Vallarta City Tour

It’s that time again, as another year passes, we here at Things to do in Vallarta would like to think of some way to thank all the great clients and customers we have and will have this 2007/2008 season. We have truly had the best time helping you visit the tours and attractions that you have wanted to go on when you visit Puerto Vallarta. In the spirit of thanks, when ever you book 2 different excursions with us we will send you on the TTF Puerto Vallarta City Tour FREE OF CHARGE.

The City Tour is a favourite for new visitors to the city as it shows you around and lets you establish your bearings especially at the beginning of your trip so you can then enjoy and embark on your own journeys throughout the time that you are here. The tour starts in Marina Vallarta; its residential zone, the Golf Course and Yacht Club

Next it heads downtown driving through the Pitillal district towards the border walk “El Malecón”. It stops at the famous Sea Horse statue where you will get a brief informational tour of the monuments in the area as well as the symbols and important buildings such as: the Municipal Palace and the city’s main church. We will also give information about the city stores from the most popular to the most fancy & exclusive. The flea market will be waiting for you.

Then it heads south of the bay, going through the residential zones of Costa de Oro, Conchas Chinas, and Mirador de los Arcos  where you will make a few brief stops for picture taking, leg stretching and sightseeing. Once in Mismaloya you will head to part of the set of john Houston’s “Night of the Iguana” (first movie filmed here in Puerto Vallarta).

Finally a stop at a tequila factory to learn the processes and elaboration of tequila & raicilla. Of course, you are welcome to taste one or all of the house liquors. Last but not least, it stops at a Steak house restaurant called Brazil for lunch. Brazil is one restaurant in Old Vallarta that it is hard to walk by with out having your mouth water!<

Normally $27 per person, for each person that books 2 excursions in your party, we will pay for their City Tour as well! When you are checking out just add the note that you would like the City Tour in the comments and the date you want to go and it is yours!

This offer is valid now until February 15.

Thanks again and hope to see you soon!

New in Puerto Vallarta this season

Puerto Vallarta has been called one of the fastest growing communites on the west coast of North America, every year more and more people come and visit our fair city, fall in love and keep coming back to Puerto Vallarta year after year. In the 6+ years that I have been a Puerto Vallarta regualr I have seen many changes and more and more are on the way every day.

Last year, PV got their first Starbucks which is always busy and is located on the main road in the hotel district. Three years before that Walmart appeared in the marina and many more superstores are on the way. For years frustrated at the lack of stores in PV that carried all those little things you always need but could never find without going to 18 little neighbourhood stores or never find because you couldn’t explain it good enough in Spanish I had expressed many a time a wish for a Home Depot. To my surprise, somewhat delight and somewhat dismay Home Depot has opened in near Las Juntas. I say delight cause I love Home Depot and know I will spend a bit of time there but dismay because surely this is a sign that the little town I fell in love with is growing up and out as all places eventually do.

Cheers to a brand new year and winter season in one of the lovliest little places on the west coast.

Puerto Vallarta Geocaching

All points lead south..well atleast some do. Geocaching is a worldwide game played with the use of a friendly GPS unit. Basically, someone hides a cache (treasure) and posts the coordinates and others take these coordinates to take themselves on a little treasure hunt to the prize. Once you locate the cache, you get to take one item and leave an item. Items are usually not of much value, but definitely a mildly entertaining way to waste some time, all while getting to get into the great outdoors for a little fresh air and some exercise.

One virtual cache leads to a certain statue on the Malecon where unknown to the surrounding people, people are clicking photos of themselves and the statue to send back to geocaching.com http://www.geocaching.com/seek/gallery.aspx?guid=2142e8b2-1ea8-4102-b3b7-e1caf76744ff

There are appx 120,000 caches all over the world on all continents and most countries. Puerto Vallarta and area seems to have a few geocaches around, but not any in over abundance. Check out the PV Cache listings on geocaching.com and look for more from Things to do in Vallarta by next season. And remember to bring those GPS’ on vacation with you!!!

thanks carlos

thanks carlos, we had a wonderful time in Puerto Vallarta. We went on the TTF Kontiki booze cruise and it was FABULOUS. Thank you so much for coming out and showing up to show us where the boat was, it was really nice. The cruise was awesome, it went to great places, the staff was great, the food was great, the day as whole was great. We cant wait to come back to Puerto Vallarta and do it all over again!

Lastly, we took your advice and went to My Rueda for dinner. We were a little unsure, but it as well turned out fabulous, the host Miguel was fantastic and treated us like we were family. We got there just as the sun set and the view of the bay was magnificent. The Margaritas, were superb, and the filet mignon, cooked to perfection.

We just really wanted to say thanks for all your help and your endless answering of all our phonecalls and questions. We took your Things to do in Vallarta Guide Book back home and will not hesitate to recommend you to all of our travelling friends and family. Thanks and see you next year.

PS. Corona is better than Sol beer
